Experience:
At Wings Counseling Center, Julie does individual, couple and group therapy. A couple or individual also has the option of scheduling half day intensives, where she blocks out usually 3 or 4 hours with the intention of accelerating the therapy process or for addressing a crisis situation.

Some clients live in an area where there is not a Christian counselor that is also a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist. Others, who are high profile clients or for other confidentiality concerns, seek a therapist outside their local area. For these clients (or for those with other reasons who desire this) she offers regular phone sessions and an option to supplement phone sessions with a one time (or more if the client desires) in person session (the client flies to her location or she flies to the client's location).

Wings Counseling has held 3 day marriage intensives that incorporate experiential learning specifically for couples who have struggled with the sexual addiction issue or marital infidelity.

Wings Counseling also holds workshops and intensives in various cities that address the following issues:

  • sexual abuse
  • spouses of sex addicts
  • female sexual addiction
  • male sexual addiction
  • couple recovery

Julie is involved with LifeHouse Ministries, A Christ-Centered Sanctuary for Those Touched by an Unplanned Pregnancy. In addition, she was recently in a video shoot about Post Abortion Syndrome.

Before private practice, Julie worked in the counseling center at Houston’s First Baptist Church, where she did individual and group counseling. There she also worked in the Prepare for Marriage Program, speaking at the weekend workshop on conflict resolution as well as speaking on sexual addiction in the Newlywed class. At HFBC, Julie facilitated their first group to deal with sexual addiction issues, with the spouses group called SARAH (acronym for Sexual Addiction Relational Awareness and Healing). This opened the door for her to start several other therapy groups addressing sexual issues in that church, such as female sexual addiction groups named FSR (acronym for Female Sexual Redemption), and also sexual abuse groups.

Before that, Julie worked at the Texas Prison Psychiatric Facility, where she did individual counseling as well as group counseling for pedophiles and other sex offenders.

Other experience includes working as a school counselor for four Illinois area schools, and counseling at a Crisis Pregnancy Center for those with post-abortion syndrome. Within the education system, she worked with children with learning disabilities and behavior problems.

From a biblical perspective, she has been trained as a Precepts facilitator and has led ladies' Precept Bible Studies.

Nature of Counseling:
My desire is for individuals to reach their fullest potential by living lives that are relationally, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually healthy. I counsel towards this goal by integrating biblical principles into the healing process. From psychology, I draw from the Family System approach. In addition, I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy because thoughts influence feelings and how we live, "...be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve God's will" Romans 12:2-3. Therefore, with compassion and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, the counseling process would include looking deeper and identifying those thought patterns that may be counteractive to living a full and victorious life. In addition, I integrate biblical truths into Patrick Carnes' CSAT structure for sexual healing, one that has been tried and researched. I have seen God do wonders in this area to bring clients from brokenness to restoration. The purpose of the counseling relationship is to reach specific goals for individual and relational growth, which are mutually agreed upon by both the client and the counselor.
